SXSW runs a music video category as its own application track alongside shorts, features, episodic and XR, which is unusual for a festival of its size. Entry is tiered, and the price rises at each deadline.

The rules that matter
- The festival runs 15–21 March 2027 in Austin, Texas.
- Music video has its own application track rather than sitting inside the shorts competition.
